What is 5th Dimension Knives?

It’s a sole proprietorship that began with a passion for woodcraft and sharp tools which morphed into a desire to share the sensation of using a properly cared for blade with everyone.

My name is Chessie Sutherland and I operate 5th Dimension Knives out of Madison, Wisconsin.

Over several years, I learned from masters of blade sharpening until I’d refined my own techniques for blade care and repair. I make use of both classical and modern techniques, preferring to use fine Japanese water stones on softer metals and diamond cutting wheels on harder steels.

I’ve sharpened everything from giant swords to the guillotines which professional print shops use to slice their paper sheaf. It is a joy to apply these skills and if I could do this work for free, I would. Barring that, I share my love of history and craft with others for a small fee.
